Got the Howa 243Win in S/S 24" today. The only 243 which I could get ATM. I will be handing papers in tomorrow to start the licensing process..

I will either rap it in camo tape or have it cerakoted at some time.
I am planning to fit a 20MOA rail and have Turrets installed to my lynx Lx2 2.5-10x56. Maybe I should have a look at another scope with higher magnification for the 243?


For those who have had their Howas 243 Ackley Improved:
Did you have to do work to your magazine or to feeding ramp? Or does it feed reliably as is?

I like more magnification for range work, but hardly ever hunt at higher magnification that 8. You don't need higher magnification scope, but as with a lot of gun related buys, you will probably WANT more.

Mine feeds perfectly with the standard magazine/feeding ramp, as well as from AI magazine and aftermarket bottom metal.

Thats the thing. I doubt I will be hunting much with this rifle.. I usually have the opportunity to hunt about three kudu a year and then I'll use my 300wm or 303brit. I will mostly just be shooting targets/ vermin from a distance..
I have found that 300m+ the 10x magnification is too small for my liking to shoot vervet monkeys and Eguiptian geese.

Two other places I can think of is S&O Stellenbosch has gunsmiths(not part of S&O) on the floor; and the other place Bullet Central Africa.

Anyone else worth having a look at?

Also did he cut the dies for you or did you buy 243AI dies?

Was about R5000-rechamber to AI plus reamer hire , trued action, threaded barrel for silencer and made a thread cap.

I bought 243AI dies.
