    Thanks guys.
    I guess that it wasn't such a stupid question after all .
    Think I'll just 'stick' with 'the usual' shotgun shells in the 12 gauge and use the .308 Win when needed.

    You could always use the old Rhodie trick of pouring molten candle wax over the shot size of your choice. Sort of a Glaser Safety slug on steroids.

    In America "cut birdshot shells" are popular. A ring is cut in the casing above the powder and below the wad. When firing the whole casing leaves the barrel and holds together until it makes contact.Also acting like a glaser safety slug. Its also know as the poorman's slug. I am not confident firing it through my fixed chokes.

    Cutting birdshot shells is a bad idea: the whole package is too thick to fit in barrel and the choke will make things even worse, thus the pressure peak is way bigger what the barrel is designed for. How about buying some slugs...?
