Default Subcompact for section 15 Anyone done it.

    Hi All,
As I already have a section 13 handgun and want to keep it, I was wondering if anybody on the forum has had success in motivating S&W shield under section 15.

Otherwise I have to take the long route around and that is a PITA.

    What is the long route?
NHSA you could get DSS in less than a month. Maintaining it is also simple 3 activities a year.

I am thinking of getting a smaller gun on section 15 something like CZ P-01, I have also just received my press and dies, So i will be starting to reload soon.
I want to start sport shooting from next year.

    Regards
    Tony G

Singh17, thanks the long route is apply for a new section 13 licence for the new firearm, once approved book in the current section 13 firearm to dealer stock, collect new firearm, apply for section 15 licence for firearm now in dealer stock.

Done it once before but would rather avoid it if possible.

NHSA sounds like a good option, thanks for that.

Hi Sean. I had the same question a few months ago, So I applied to have my HK P30 L under sec 13 Renewed under sec 15 (renewed from self defense to occasional sport), sec 13 licence expires march 2018 but I basically applied 7 months before it expires and I sent in a motivation letter saying that the Firearm is too big and I wish to rather use it for sport, Renewal from sec 13 to sec 15 took only a month (Still waiting for the card) now Im waiting for my new licence for my Glock G19 under sec 13.
So far so good, so I suggest you try going the same route, because you get to keep the firearm while you wait for the new one.

Go NHSA. Easiest way. Then go straight S16.
Join. Pay fee for book you have to study. Write exam.
Shoot the qualifying exam. And done and dusted.

Yes. Multiple choice, and pretty easy.
The practical exam is just putting 5 shots on their target (about a 5 inch ring) at 10m at a range that they approve/recognise and getting a witness/RO to sign that they saw you shoot it.

As Nyt said above. Online exam. You need to get 70%.

If you go that route. Pay the extra +-R100 and do the Dedicated Hunter with the Dedicated Sport.

Thanks Guys, this is really help full.
As I have 2 hunting rifles as well it seems as though NHSA is the way to go.

Oddly enough, I am a member of both a hunting association and a shooting club and this option has never been mentioned to me before, in fact First I heard of it was when Singh17 mentioned it.

    Thanks All.
