If the bunny huggers paid the same amount to go see an elephant, as a punter paid to shoot one, problem solved...

But the bunnies have no money, and so the game is worthless and not economically viable to keep alive.

Or am I missing something here.

You hit the nail on the head.

Problem is,the bunny hugger organisations do have money and political clout.
Give the elephants names of 'daddy ellie','mommie ellie' and 'baby ellie',show a picture of a decomposed elephant and a lone calf and hunters are villified and the coffers re fill.

Never mind the fact that there are areas becoming totally denuded of any form of greenery due to over populations of elephant which is allready having a serious impact on food supply not only for elephant but for other species as well.

The wild elephant population needs protection in some countries but this will not be achieved with current political apathy and rampant poaching. Here, the bunny huggers aint gonna help.

In other areas, the elephant population needs to be reduced in numbers by hunting/culling for their own good.It is also not 10 or 100 elephant but in some cases thousands need to be taken off. Here, the bunny huggers also aint gonna help and they themselves with their emotive crap have been a big cause in this happening in the first place.

Anyway...we have a step now taken in the right direction. It is amazing that foreign countries have such an influence in the wild life industry in Africa and the irony is that they normally cock up in their policies regarding the very animals they are trying to protect.
