Re: new law/rule
Edenvale do the check as a matter of routine. Its a good thing because it picks up any issues before you submit. I had a problem with a 303 which the CFR had messed up, as well as a deceased estate. All rectified before the app is submitted.
The Edenvale DFO has always been extremely helpful

Re: new law/rule
I sold one of my firearms. CFR phoned me and told me that the firearm wasn't and never was licensed to me. I asked them to check the copy of my white license card attached to the application. They said they would come back to me.
They send the app back to the buyer's DFO and the DFO point blank told the buyer that I was in illegal possession of this firearm as I don't have a license for this firearm and according to the system it is still on Shooting Stuff's name(where I bought it years before), even thought the copy of my license was stapled to the front of the brown application file.
It's shocking the level of "experience/knowledge" some of these DFO's have. (BTW this is the same DFO that asked me what he was supposed to do(and how he was suppose to handle these permits) with a Storage permit that I took to him for approval.)
Luckily Shooting Stuff came to the rescue and sorted it out within 2 x days.

Sad as it is. CFR's dept who does transfers are lagging behind. So instead of fixing this.
They issue directive to punish the applicant.
Not to accept his app due to their ineffectiveness.

Re: new law/rule
My view is that this is purely aimed at delaying issues of licenses with the sole purpose of not allowing the public to be armed.

Re: new law/rule
Please dont refer to it as a law. CFR/DFOs/SAPS do not make laws

Re: new law/rule
Friend of mine had his and his wife revolvers turned into dealers stock a year ago. Bought a Glock43 and CZ P07 in July. On Thursday he got an sms that both applications were refused. Checked with the DFO- weapons still reflecting on their names. WTF
