Default Re: Some advice on buying a home alarm system ?

The basic kit should be around R7000 and includes the following:
Siren, battery, transformer, 2x remotes, keypad, metal box (for panel), MG5050 panel, 3x indoor passives (PMD75), 1x door contact.

Seperate passives will be around R700 ea for PMD2 model, and around R1000 ea for PMD75. The PMD75 is the newer version with some additional features (pet immunity, etc). Might not be needed. Outdoor passives (similar to PMD75, but in outdoor housing) is around R1600 ea.

The USB module is around R700, but it makes life a lot easier. You can get modules to connect to a home network via LAN, or connect using 3G, or just cellular (using SMS or voice).

There are many places selling Paradox kits, parts and accessories, but I usually use http://www.communica.co.za or http://www.alarmtec.co.za as a first order price check. From there you can compare prices to other places.

Sorry, forgot to quote you. Please see my previous post regarding cost.
