IPSC : Modding a glock - what division?
Good evening
I've been using my BHP for the past year in IPSC at club level. I recently acquired a Glock 19. I use them both for competitions, depending on what ammo I reloaded that week.
For various reasons, I'd like to mod my Glock with an undercut.
Let me just say that I just shoot for fun and have no ambition to really go to league shoots.
My limited knowledge of the rules is that no mods are allowed in Production and Standard. With an undercut, which division will I be shooting in if I go ahead with this mod? Not worried that I'll be outgunned by guys with race guns. Just worried that I won't be able to use it for a shoot - since that's basically the only triggertime I get.

I assume by an undercut you mean removing material under the trigger guard. That would make it illegal for Production, you'll have to shoot Standard. I made a small cutout for my fingertip in my Glock 17's trigger guard years ago and had to shoot Standard until I got another Glock 17. The level of competition was a bit less than now and I was quite competitive in Standard Gun. If you work at it, you should be able to be competitive at club level with a Glock 19 in Standard Gun.

Yes, to my knowledge that would make it illegal for Production. You may find that at club level the RO's won't bother, but technically it's outside the Production rules.

For what reason do you want to do that? Because cool guy?
Leave it, shoot Production for a year or two. Then acquire a proper gun

Yes, I think you're going to see very little advantage from the undercut and a lot of disadvantages. From the photo, it seems that you will be compromising the integrity of the trigger guard. To later replace the frame will be expensive and involve a lot of hassles. Resale value may also suffer. On balance, for the dubious marginal gain, probably not a good idea.

What gain do you expect from this mod?

Re: IPSC : Modding a glock - what division?
To reduce Glock knuckle. Hopefully get a higher grip.
I use this gun as a carry gun as well. I joined the club so I could get dedicated status. While I enjoy the activity as well as the socialising with other shooters (this is my second year at the club), I'm not too worried about getting national colours. What I am worried about is that I won't be able to use the gun at all if I do this mod.
I know I won't qualify for production anymore, but my question still stands : What division will I be allowed to shoot in with an undercut Glock 19?

You can shoot it in Standard.
Glock knuckle is self limiting and no matter how you cut the gun you’re going to get callouses from shooting.
