6.5 BC is a winner in wind...
    I love my 243Win, but I would easily buy myself a 6.5Creed/6.5x47Lap/260Rem.

    My 2c.

i have both. for gong shooting though.
    Both running Berger Target Hybrids.
    260 - 140gr @ 2760fps
    243 - 105gr @ 3050fps

out to 300m.....the 243 have less drop and the same wind drift (scope clicks) as the 260.
I'm expecting 3000 rnds barrel life from the 260 and half that from the 243......will only know in a year or 2 haha.

We must be realistic about the perceived rifle.
If someone ask about a hunting rifle the criteria must reflect such.
It's probably not going to have a 26" barrel and it's not going to be used for lots of target shooting.

So if we compare a 260 with a 243 then first we must know the barrel length, then we must know the twist rate, then we must know the bullet, then we must run calculations according to accurate nodes for that criteria.

In modern bullets I think the scenario Urabus described will be the norm, the 243 will have the 260 beat in external ballistics up to normal hunting distances.

In short, for the average person, he will be able to point and shoot better with the 243.

Of the 3 Farms we go hunt at in Merweville area.
None of these 3 farmers will even let you shoot even a Springbuck with a 243.
They only allow it on Jackal.

I dont think its the 243's fault. Reckon its hunters who came to hunt with 243's in past.
Had bad shot placements and because of this. They are not fond of 243's.

Supply and demand. Il take my business elsewhere. This probably highlights the importance of building a relationship with the farmer for long term sustainability of hunting grounds.

A 300m hunting distance for springbuck...to hell with bullet drop, windage, terminal ballistics, time of flight and anything else you can think of.
As a specialised caliber with the right bullet, the 243 is the answer. The differences in performance between the 243 and 6.5 over such a relatively short distance on such a small fragile animal is meaningless.

Where the gap between the 2 becomes so large in the 6.5's favour is when you up the size of the animal you want to hunt.

You want a springbuck rifle...use a 243 with decent bullets.

You want a springbuck rifle that is just as capable as the 243 and can also be used for a myriad of other functions...use a 6.5.

I follow Matt from AirArmsHuntingSA on youtube.

Last week he posted a video of a Blessbuck hunt with his 260. With Hornady ELD-x.

He shot and I might be out a meter or so. But at +-798m. (Might have been 798 yard.)
    The Blessbuck just dropped.

If you want something bigger for plains game hunting than a 243 you buy a 270.
