Re: Browning A bolt 7mm Rem Mag
We must compare apples with apples, and it's not as simple as this.
The RM will use S385 the x64 S365.
When running calculations for accurate nodes, in short barrels like 24", using bullets like 150gr Nolser LR, then reading the results makes for interesting reading.
Pressure is much the same, but of course the RM is running 100ft/s faster on node.
So longer barrel life will not really be an issue, recoil will come with added MV, that's just normal.
But the doom and gloom people predict is not really the case, you can have a short barrel RM and use it correctly very easily.
It really is a case of using whatever you fancy in this regard.

Re: Browning A bolt 7mm Rem Mag
Thanks for all the advise,
I want a strictly plains rifle, that can, more or less, compete with a 25-06, I basically want to push a 150gr premium bullet, would have preferred the 7mm, at 3000 - 3100ft/s.
Friend has a 25-06, we are shooting a 115gr Berger at about 3133ft/s, giving us a max point blank range of about 280m.
I am very bad at guessing distance, so want something flat shooting, then the reason for something "bigger" is would really prefer a 150gr bullet.
I have a 375HH for the bush, and 7x57 that I am keeping as a "spare" gun for either the bush 170gr bullets (2450ft/s) or plains 150gr bullet (2850ft/s).
I would like to use "enough gun" up to 300m, maby pushing 400m

7x64 with a 120g Barnes TTSX should get you to 3000ft/sec with either S355 or S365. These bullets are strong enough for the bigger animals like kudu, gemsbok etc
