Default 1st time application for a firearm and section 16 licence

Hi all. I am taking over my old man's 303. I want to use it for Veldskiet comps. So my question is. As a 1st time gun owner. Can I apply for a section 16 from the start? 2nd question. Do I have to 1st do 3 events before I can apply for section 16. Or should I just do section 15 now and change to section 16 end of the season? Reason I am asking as well is I want to take over his 30-06 too. But that's strictly for hunting.

    Hi buddy,

You need to obtain dedicated status through one of the many accredited organisations. You can only apply for a S16 license if you have that. They each have their respective requirements for how many shoots a year you need to do keep DSS after having acquired it.

I would suggest rather obtaining your DSS from such organisations and handing in both apps, the one under section 16, the other section 15 for occasional hunting, or if you want to go the distance and hunt often, get dedicated hunting status as well and then license it for that purpose.

If you need further advice, please PM me and we can get in touch.

    Regards

    Werner
