Guineafowl hunting dates?
What are the dates for hunting guinea fowl?
I could not find them on my list.
A farmer requested me to shoot some for him as they are ruining his crop. The shot birds are to be used for rations for his workers.
I do not want to run into trouble.

Re: Guineafowl hunting dates?
Probably not much help for your query....but as child I recall my grandfather saying you only eat guinea fowl in the months with no "R" in them....I figured its when you were allowed.... and its when they have no worms.
How that plays out in when you can hunt them I have no idea.

Dates differ between provinces. Free State is May to end August.

Re: Guineafowl hunting dates?
They are breeding now. Hunting them now can have a serious effect on next years population. Hunting 1 now can mean the death of 5-10 Winter months are hunting months. Wait for them to aggregate into larger groups.

Re: Guineafowl hunting dates?
Ds J has been asked to do "pest" control and not hunting. Many farmers however believe that guinea fowl are responsible for digging up sprouting seeds. That might be possible, but the spur fowl are sometimes more guilty of that practice. If I were farming I would create feeding spots for the wild fowl so as to keep them out of the lands when the seedlings are vulnerable.
Guinea fowl eat "black jacks", termites and other insects that make their presence beneficial to the farmer.
