    Default Water monitor lizard juvenile.

While camping down at the Gariep river, I caught this little guy climbing up the rear wheel of a land cruiser.

Nice. He seems very docile, are they not prone to bite?

No, but you need to watch their nails and tails. This is a really young specimen and he seemed more confused than aggressive.

Thanks. I thought it was a water monitor for two reasons: a) I often find an adult water monitor at this spot.
    b) The bright colors.
It is not difficult to tell adult water- and rock monitors apart, this is the first juvenile I have ever seen. I would appreciate some pointers on telling the juveniles apart.

The juveniles waters has much sharper snouts. Also the patterning is different they much more yellow yes so that is what makes this one confusing. Also the water monitor has a very long neck. Have a look at water monitor baby
