Out of curiosity, does a RONI qualify in this division for either IPSC or idpa?

With the 9mm cartridge you are not going to get much more out of it with a longer barrel.

the original idea was to use the micro Roni.
then talked to shooting buddies and watched a few PCC vids on youtube.
boom! I need a 9mm AR with Glock mags

AR platform - same ergo/controls and parts/accessories sharing.
Glock mags - have plenty, cheap, available, mag sharing.

was thinking about a longer barrel so I can use a 12" handguard to get the same shooting style/hold.
I think I can get away with 9" barrel/10" handguard tho.

The resurected Ruger PC9 is not an AR. It looks more like an overgrown 10/22, but a little uglier. It apparently shares some 10/22 parts in the trigger group. It has mag well inserts that adapt it to various mags, Glock being one of them.

Who cares how it looks, as long as it shoots.

I have the DM4 Tactical Chambered in 9mm with a 7" barrel they make a Glock mag variant as well.

I know there are better AR brands out there but honestly mine goes boom evertime. I would recommend having a look at them as they are reasonably priced but remember buy once cry once.

Running the Troy M5 now. Did 2x club shoots and classifier with it. Runs great and if you want to practice for AR, it really works well as you can C clamp it like the real thing. Just feels funny to grab a pistol mag to change. Also no lock back after last shot.
Did timney 3.5lbs trigger as standard trigger is like normal 2 stage mil spec. Added a BCM A44 charge handle and magpull MOE SL grip and stock and for optics opted for the Vortex AR sparc.

Just a lot of carbon that blows back, so will have to keep it clean over multi day matches. I would anyway. Will give a proper feedback after NNATS.
