Thread: My new DDM4 v11

    Default My new DDM4 v11

    Hi Guys,

In June I bought my first AR15. It is the Kryptek typhon and it looks awesome. The Daniel Defense comes with a 1 in 7" twist. My s 16 was captured on Wednesday and my s21 yesterday. My first club shoot is on 23 and 24 August.

As I will not have a lot of time to test ammo to compete I would like to know from the guys with the same twist rate what ammo you would recommend?

I believe the 55gr will be a tad to light, and that I should liik at 62 or 67gr. I believe Barnaul sells 62gr for aroun R5 a round. If I have enough reloadable cases I will probably start to reload my match ammo and train with milsurp stuff.

    Any advice?

PS: I will post pics once my DD is received.

(Fingers crossed for the s21 app)

    Cheers
    Joe

The 1-7 twist will stabilise longer bullets better for better accuracy at medium to longer distances of 200m plus.

55gr will be fine for you average IPSC or IDPA match and imo you will able to get proper hits on target at short to low medium range and even a bit more.

The only 62gr 223 ammo I am aware of currently is Aguila

In my experience 55gr runs well up to ~300m in favourable wind conditions. Uncertain if available in SA but PMC 62gr X-TAC works well ~in my 1:7 and 1:8 rifles to 500m . Geco 63gr, similarly.

I highly doubt your sec 21 will be approved by that club shoot

    Unfortunately those aren't available here.

I had a Section 21 approved in Pretoria last week, within 9 business days.

I have done a temp for many sec16 guns over the years.

Average wait has has been about two weeks.

Last one took longer tho (due to provincial only going to CFR once a month)
