Re: SIG Sauer New Release: P365 11-Round Subcompact EDC Pistol
There are photos on the net of the P365 and a review on the Soldier Systems site.

Re: SIG Sauer New Release: P365 11-Round Subcompact EDC Pistol
Well if you could link to some where it shows the sizing perspective against its competitors I would appreciate it. I've seen the one where they are resting on their sights and the perspective looks 'off".
It does concern me that Soldier Systems took Cohens assertion that this could replace full size pistols in uniformed agencies seriously, and that none of those all excited about this has discussed the fact that the demo guns at the press release weren't particularly reliable.
I will see these in a couple weeks and will at least get an idea of size.

Re: SIG Sauer New Release: P365 11-Round Subcompact EDC Pistol
The reduction of about 10%(?) in barrel length compared to a G43 that already has a short-for-calibre barrel does not inspire. No use potentially approaching 9mmS velocities with the extra powder being burned out in front that will increase muzzle blast and flash and bang. What will recoil be like? Only real world comparable tests will however tell the full story.
And a paper comparison does also not tell how well the product will be supported locally with back up service. But for this we have the experience of the current Sig products, both from an international and local viewpoint, compared to the only opposition. A paper comparison on measurements does not tell what accuracy the pistol will have, or how reliable it will be mechanically, or how long it will last.
So we will see about the rest. Some answers we already know. In any event, good to see some innovative design ideas being turned out.

Funniest thing ever, the words “low bore axis” and “SIG” used in the same sentence without a “not” in there.
Then again, I suppose for SIG that IS a low bore axis.Sent electronically, thus not signed.

At what point does reducing slide length measurably impact reliability.

All be it not an overly fair comparison, but puts velocities into perspective when it comes to barrel length and velocity using the same ammo
147gr Frontier Flat nose, S221, S&B Primers
Glock 43 = +-850fps
HK Elite = +-1050fps
Glock 43 Barrel Length 86 mm
HK Elite Barrel Length 153 mm

Re: SIG Sauer New Release: P365 11-Round Subcompact EDC Pistol
I'd like to see empirical tests on muzzle velocity to understand the impact of the slightly shorter barrel. It is rated to +P ammunition which goes some way to allay fears of the impact of a reduced barrel length. It was tested to 40,000 rounds as well.
As for Cohen's comments, his opinion on take up by uniformed officers is exactly that, an opinion.
I agree the failures to go into battery is a concern. The temperature they shot in was said to be extreme and once the lubrication was changed and a more normal temperature experienced, this issue went away. So perhaps not as significant an issue. Further testing will be the proof.
Positives: Night sights as standard
Higher capacity compared to it's direct rivals
Negatives: Sig proprietary rail
There is a silhouette comparison of sizes on the Soldier Systems review as well.
Still early days, so my judgment is largely uninformed for now, however looks like a solid option - time will tell.
