    Default Steyr Manlicher 243

Good day to my fellow gun nuts
Have the opportunity to get a Steyr 243.
My friends dad has got alzheimers and none of his kids want to addopt the weapon.
This rifle has a twisted barrel and is very old with an amazing history.
My friends dad lived in Komatipoort and shot a couple of buffaloes and a rouge lion with it in the 70s.
It was a working rifle and im sure it didnt do much target shooting.

I was told that the stock was cracked long ago but was bushfixed by the old man himself using lead and heaven only knows what else.

When i was a little boy my dad and myself shot countless impala with it and so it does have some sentimental value to me.
I also told my friend that if he feels he wants his dads gun in the future he can have it without any reservations

What are the chances of the barrel still being good?? I want to make them an offer but im not sure if its going to be worth it.

Are you sure about that? That doesn't look like a Steyr-Mannlicher to me.

Seen the latest pics. Definitely not the same rifle as in the 1985 pic.

My 243 is indispensable and probably the most used from a fair selection. Steyr makes good rifles. Ask them to have it checked by a gunsmith and then decide.

If the barrel is still good on the inside yhere should be no troubles. Have a gunsmith check her out then take her to the range.

You will need to check barrel is still fine. Although Steyr makes or made good rifles.
243's are known to have shorter barrel life.
