Maybe we should give that tried and tested hunting technique a chance, stalk closer.
I like the way you think :)

That is why I love bush hunting. Fair chance and all.

Either a range finder or a mildot scope give you good ranging options, and if you have both, then you not only have a ranging option, but a sizing option too. For longer shots you should have the time to do the maths. It’s not that hard.

    Ds

As discussed you must play around with a MPBR calculator, like this :

Then, if required, look into bullet options that will extend your MPBR.
It's a fine balance between wind management and bullet drop. If one range to target, then it's better to run the highest BC bullet, like you yourself said if met with an unexpected wind.
If one doesn't range meaning snap shooting MPBR is more useful.

Messor...your comment about the pigmy kudu of the Eastern Cape did not go unnoticed. ....watching you....

Anyway it takes a real hunter,as only the EC can produce to find those bulls that dress out at 200-220kg.

Maybe one day i will show you how to do it properly..

Last year I went hunting and came across an impala in the middle of the road a distance aways. I asked the PH how far he thought the impala was and he estimated 300m. I looked at him doubtfully and ask "Are you sure?" as to me it seemed more than that. He replied with yes. When I looked again I still wasn't sure and decided that the impala was at 350m. Now i know where and how far to compensate with my specific rifle up to 400m. I adjusted and took the shot and immediately saw the bullet struck between the shoulder and elbow and knew it was way further than I estimated. By the time we reached the spot where the ram was standing it was just shy of 450m. I wasn't worried about the money but more upset at myself for "kwessing" the animal due to poor judgement. It sucks and that's why I'm investing in a range finder now.

I like hunting with a buddy. Extra pair of eyes/ears and we range for each other.
