Default Importing Gear from the US

Does anybody know the ins and outs of bringing in firearm related gear from the States?

A relative of mine is coming to visit in January and he offered to bring a few little things back for me. The last thing I want is for the poor guy to get a cavity search at JFK or even worse, ORT. I'm wanting:

    2 spare mags
A set of Meprolight night sights
    An MTAC holster

He's also happy to post the stuff to me. Again, I don't want someone confiscating the stuff.

Do any of you have any experience in this regard? The only thing that I can potentially see a problem with is the mags.

I've never had a problem bringing in mags, spares or sights. The only problem is paying huge $'s for the stuff! :(
