KK20; I know Arn / Jim. He has picked up an enormous amount of flak from members of the unit. People that were with him at some of the incidents claim he is lying and exaggerating about somethings. I wasn't with him / them at those incidents so I can't comment.
Read it and take from it what you will.

I really enjoyed the book. But mostly for his writing style and the way that he discusses his emotions and personal struggles.

As for the factual basis of the events? As Ross said, that is really hard to comment on. Memories fade over time and in the heat of battle, it must be incredibly difficult to remember events accurately. Much has been written about the unreliability of eyewitness accounts, even in the immediate aftermath of an event.

His writing seems pretty sincere and didn't give me any reason to doubt that it was a reflection of how he perceived and remembered the events
