Default .577 Snider Carbine by I. Hollis and Sons

    Hi,

So my dad want to give me this little puppy so that I can be legit on the 1800's hunt.

He says he cannot get it to shoot accurately. The gun is apparently in excellent condition and 100% original, but as the barrel is cleaned from the front there is wear on the inside of the crown.

Can this be repaired without cutting off any of the barrel?

    Regards

Very much doubt that you can repair without shortening.

Are the bullets sized correctly for the barrel measurements?

A bit off topic, but how about a few pictures?

An old trick is to bore the barrel out from the muzzle, creating a false crown some distance back. This leaves exterior dimensions and sights untouched.

Now that's clever. Worth a try.

That was my first option but did not want to "lead" the conversation.
