Import/export guns and parts; what are the laws
I've read on a Facebook group of the difficulty someone is having importing an AR rifle. It seems the guy is in a catch-22 situations where US customs requires a certain SAPS form before proceeding further , but SAPS won't issue the form unless it receives documentation from the US customs side. Something like that. So I wonder which laws were altered to create this situation.
It sounded like the guy was importing privately, so I guess it helps to have an experienced dealer on this end too.
But it points to the problem of purposefully created red tape pushing up prices and restricting legitimate activity via trade restrictions which really amount to backdoored gun control .
I just know of ITAR-something regulations, and I'm still looking for a blinking little sideplate screw for a rollie. I wonder if it could be as easy as just ordering online using a credit card from one of the big gun-parts companies. It will probably be something like R250 delivered for a $4 screw.

Re: Import/export guns and parts; what are the laws
It is close to impossible to import a rifle privately.
One of the reasons is that we live on the dark continent and no-one in Europe or the US wants their name connected to another genocide in Africa. Thus red tape.
The guy on the FB group should get a gun shop to do it for him.

From an average persons point of view, just looking at this document shows the complexity of it all, and many ways to enforce undue restrictions. What does it all mean.

I might help too: from Finland it'll be 1.40€ postage plus the price of the screw... If I can find the part, that is.

Found a source. Will be R15 plus postage.
Just to be sure we get the right one:
1) what is the diameter of the head (based on the recess)?
2) stainless or blue?
3) how would I get it to you?

Re: Import/export guns and parts; what are the laws
I just ordered a Spring kit. Containing a hammer spring and small lever lock spring for a marlin lever action rifle from Brownells.
Parts were $8-99 and shipping about $25 as i wanted tracked shipping.
But I did apply for a Itac Permit on this side on Friday.
So still waiting for it.
Just n case Customs gives me hassles on spring.
