Re: JEEP OR TOYOTA, ADVICE NEEDED!
Jeeps are immensely fun and capable toys, there is not much that our TJ can't do, but the rubbish service from the dealers combined with all the niggly issues that the new Jeeps give will stop me from buying one again.
In less than 45000kms my WK2 went in for - Engine mounts, subframe mounts, gearshifter mechanism x3, leaking sunroof, Tps sensors x2, starting issues, overheating issues, and I'm sure there is more I've forgotten. It was just not a vehicle that A) I felt was reliable enough to let my wife and kid drive around in.
And B) Wouldn't cost me a fortune once the warranty was up.

Fortuner petrol if you can afford the fuel bill. Mine is 9yrs old with 276000on the clock, tow my boat all the time and the only repairs needed was new universal joints a couple of months ago.

V6 Fortuner all the way. Mine is 12 years old, 250 000km. No problems.

There's a saying us Toyota drivers have...
If you want to go to deepest Africa... Take a Jeep,
If you want to come back... Take a Toyota :D

Re: JEEP OR TOYOTA, ADVICE NEEDED!
toyota it is, fortuner or prado
the young gent i met last night for the fortuner had so many holes in his story and forgot what he had told me
from his sister getting married, to his gran dying to him and his mum going to the beach
told me his dad got the car at 40 000km, he obviously didnt know the previous owners details were in the warranty book haha
gave the car a miss as, dont know how guys can sleep at night spinning stories like that and more than likely selling a bad vehicle
anyways rather safe than sorry
anyone know of any prado/fortuner 4.0 in durban up to R150 000, mileage im not too concerned about, but 180 000-220 000 is the sweet spot for me on the 4.0 motor

Re: JEEP OR TOYOTA, ADVICE NEEDED!
slight revival
looks like we ended up buying another jeep haha
client sold me her cherokee KK with 30 000 on clock, has the powertech 3.7 V6 (now in use for 15 years with jeep dodge and mitsubishi) as she works overseas and car is sitting idle
with the limited amount of 4x4ing we do (although this has low range) , combined with the mileage and condition of the vehicle, factoring in my wife will be driving every day, and she only does 14km (this has everything from cruise control, sat nav, heated power seats to voice commands) it turned out to be the best buy
prado in the same price bracket had 216 000km on clock
interesting fact, the parts i quoted were on par with toyota
namely being things such as disk and brakes, wheel hub assembly etc
anyways thanks for the help and advice gents!
