Thanks so much for the advice!

Yeah, I think the Colt must stay because it's been in the family for 3 or 4 generations. I looked up the serial number and it was produced in 1926.

The Smith and Wesson is really good looking, and a nice piece of history. And a potential EDC.

The BHP is what my heart wants though.

Maybe I can pay my gran off over a few months and keep them all.

    S&W section 13
    Colt section 15
    Browning section 15

FYI, I'm not currently a gun owner, and these will likely be the only firearms I ever own. My wife isn't keen on guns, and only OK with these because of the sentimental attachment.

The Colt Woodsman however is somewhat rare and very shootable.

If I had the choice, I would take the Colt and sell the 2 9mm pistols for cash, as they will likely bring in the most.

The S&W is edging towards collectability status now, since it's been out of production for a long time and parts can be problematic. Not really very valuable yet, maybe around 3,5 - 4k, if you can find a willing buyer. Maybe more if he is desperate to get one in his collection. How many S&W collectors are there in SA anyway?

You can only have 2 handguns, one under s13 and one under s15, if you dont have dedicated status

Ah I see... I just reread the legislation.

    So I need to do:
    S&W sec 13
    BHP sec 16
    Colt sec 16

Why not do the BHP under Sec13 as that is probably the best to actually use for SD, I've come to find that parts and springs for the Hi-Power can be found as long as you search a bit.

I thought I'd apply for the S&W for SD as I feel more comfortable carrying a gun in condition 1 with the DA/SA and firing pin block. The first gen BHP doesn't have a firing pin block. The S&W is also considerably lighter and slimmer. I realise 8 vs 13 rounds is a big difference, but the pros outway the cons in my head.

FYI. Ownig guns is an incurable addiction. Once you get the first one licensed, the rest are much easier. Don't worry too much about it, just regard Gunsite SA as the support group for gun addicts.
