ID of equipment piece.
Does anyone know what the below piece of equipment is used for?
I have seen one at a shooting range, and also in a photo of a forensics lab?
Seems heavy, can you discharge a round into it or something?

Re: ID of equipment piece.
Yes sir.
It is a bullet trap, you point the muzzle down the tube and make your weapon safe before joining the firing line for instance.

Looks like bullet trap. You make use of it during unloading, so if a shot goes off, there is no ricochets. Alot of SAPS stations have then where weapons is handed in or over.

Re: ID of equipment piece.
It is to unload your firearm.
Put the muzzle in the black "pipe", unload, take it out and stash away or holster it.
Do yourself a favour and have a look into the pipe. Most of them have a few rounds through them
