    Default 130gr Mono in 308

I bought some peregrine 130gr bullets for my 308. I have got a 308, 1/10" twist barrel, 22", 308 win. What sort of speed can I expect out of this combo? Secondly, what sort of terminal performance(penetration etc.)could I expect, what size animals would be suitable for this bullet bearing in mind correct shot placement. My standard load is a 180gr cup and core.

Check the Peregrine website for load data (I think it's on there, I also have their booklet). their 150gr bullets are quoted at similar max speeds as standard bullets (~2800fps) so I would expect the 130gr would also be similar to standards

If you can find a batch of S335 that burns somewhere near par then you should be able to find an accurate node somewhere between 2900 - 2930 fps. Pressure will be in the region of 56 to 58 000 psi.

You can shoot any animal that your mates would shoot with their 270's.

Thanks for the reply. Now this is where I was going. I have read reports on guys shooting up to Elk sized animals with .270s with Barnes 130gr TTSX with favourable results. Now elk as I know it are eland sized. I have no intentions shooting Eland, but will this combo in the 308 work fine up to kudu or blue wildebeest or should I stick to the tried and tested 180s?

Should down a kudu and wildebeest without blinking an eye.
I shot a fairly big bodied kudu 2 years ago with my 6.5X55 and a 120 grain Barnes TTSX.
    Distance was about 160 meters.
    Muzzle velocity 2900 fps
Kudu took an angled shot behind the right leg, through the heart and the bullet exited far side.
Kudu jumped in the air, ran 5 meters and expired

Blue Wildebeest as usual requires extremely accurate shot placement.

I tried working up loads with the 132 VRG4 bullet in 2 different .308 rifles, a Tikka and a CZ, I could not get acceptable groups in either rifle. I found this strange because I've gotten very good accuracy with Peregrine bullets in the 6.5x55, 7x57 and .300 win mag.

If you can get them to group, they should work just fine on kudu and blue wildebeest sized animals, provided your shot placement is good. I have shot blue wildebeest an eland using the 120gr Peregrine VRG4 in my 6.5x55.

Will give them a go and see. They have been discontinued, spoke to the guys at peregrine today. The VLR4 140gr replaced the 132gr VRG4. Apparently an improved bullet design.
