Default European boars and a feral

Awesome night out again.. Managed 3 pigs. Smaller feral pig fell victim to my 7mm RM (NiteSite optics)..

2 x European boars (both sows) fell victim to my Israeli Mauser 7.62, 168gr PMP @ 2640fps. Bullets performed very well, full penetration with very little meat damage. This was one big sow, 63kg dressed on the hook at the butcher.

Amazing experience looking for these pigs until the sun come up..

    Bless them porkers!

What suppressor is that? It's nearly as long as your barrel

How did European pigs end up here? Did they come with European settler ships, centuries ago, then escape and multiply in the wild?

Very happy with it. I bought 4 suppressors in total.

From what I gather, they were bought over from Europe about 100 years ago to help with a moth problem in tree plantations. Since then, they've spread all over the Western Cape, and other parts of SA. I know of a few places in Gauteng and KZN that have European Boars. Some smaller hunting farms breed them for hunting as well.

This hunt was between Mosselbay and Riversdale. Swellendam is starting to see allot of feral pig activity nowadays as well.

A friend of mine gave me leg of a boar shot in Gauteng. Roasted in the oven, I finally understood what Asterix and Obelix were always so happy about. I will compare it to the bushpig I have in my coolroom at the moment and let you know.

I'm glad your hogs taste good. The feral pigs we have in Florida usually are so scrawny that they are like eating your rifle scabbard. Out of 20+ I have killed only 2 have been good for anything other than sausage.
