The guy in charge of the distribution tells me that at least once a week one of his trucks are pushed off the highway by armed thugs in more than one vehicle. The driver is then forced to open the back of the vehicle. As soon as they see it is printed paper or leaflets he is let go. They are looking for anything of value such as electronics. In certain instances clean printing paper have been hijacked in this fashion. These things are then stored in Johannesburg CBD where the police are either involved or too scared to enter the buildings. They are then exported on the black market all over Africa. Now if you think clean printing paper has got little value, think again. Just go and buy a box of A3 paper for your PC printer and your realise how quickly that adds up to millions of rands.
