Re: Anyone have a semi-auto rifle or shotgun approved lately?
This is just ridiculous. Not signing the motivation. That is a bull crap story and a new stunt of the person handling SLR's. As far as I can gather this signature dream of them is only applied with SLR's. The other departments not. I had a S16 Glock and Pump action approved 3 weeks ago and sure as hell, them motivations was not signed.

Re: Anyone have a semi-auto rifle or shotgun approved lately?
Ya
My application went in 25/05/2018
Refused 19/10/2018
Appeal got to the Appeals board on 09/11/2018
Asked for more info on 05/04/2019
Approval SMS was received today
319 days
That excludes the run around for my permanent import permit
Import permit was submitted 10/07/2017
Cancelled on 28/07/2017 cause it was signed in Midrand and I live in Fairlands (yes really)
Reapplied on 15/08/2017
Approved on 17/10/2017
So all in all, this whole process has taken 638 days

Hmmm, now that I see the details, your whole process took 3 weeks longer than mine. It’s ridiculous when you actually put a number to the amount of days the whole process took.

The whole process is painful and needlessly so.
Shuffling paper is stupid!

Out of curiosity, what kind of "more info" was asked for?

Re: Anyone have a semi-auto rifle or shotgun approved lately?
On mine, they asked for updated DSS documents, because by the time the appeals board finally looked at my application, the attached DSS documents (from the original motivation) had already expired. I simply sent them my latest DSS docs and got the approval a few days later.
