Post Section 21 - Temporary Authorization to possess firearm - SAPS 518

    Good day fellow Gunsiters,

I would like to ask those who have successfully applied for a Section 21 Applications via courier to reply.

My DFO has never done Sec 21 Apps. He has no idea on how to and what to.. We are on a good standing relationship, and I have asked him nicely if we can give it a try, and he said yes.(The application is not for me, but for someone else - but I would like to be able to use it for myself if needed oneday)
Obviously the DFO has to sign, do fingerprints, log it on the system, etc.. (I think?)

How did you go ahead with the application?
    1) Who did you call to arrange this agreement(DFO, Provincial, CFR)?
    - Names and numbers would really be helpful.
    - Only info I can find is(2014)
    012 353 6314/40

    2) What was the process involved with the documents and courier?
    - DFO has to sign, do fingerprints, log it on the system, etc..?
    3) To who did you address the documents and what address?
    - Only info I can find is (2014)
    Attention Mpho
    Central Firearms Registry
    Veritas Building
    Volkstem Avenue
    Pretoria

Is this the correct details, or is this dependent on who arrange with?

Obviously one needs a solid motivation for the urgency and be able to provide proof for the requirement of having previously handled and or knowledge of firearm(s).

PS. Can we make/keep this an informative thread and maybe sticky so it is a lot easier than to filter through all the threads with limited information?

Did this couple of times. Dealer also needs to agree to give you this.
As he is in fact if approved gonna hand you firearm on a paper allowing you to use.
While your 271 is still being done and could be refused.

I just applied. Showed my previous competitions shot and scores.
And included a calendar for up coming events.
And said would like to use in those.

And they all came through 3-4weeks max.

The 518 moves quick at DFO and to Provincial.
Then gets couriered to CFR instead of monthly truck.
And I believe goes straight to person who does approvals.
Once approved your DFO prints letter and sign from his PC.

    Hi CoffeeBean.

I had a Section 21 successfully approved, midway through 2017, for SD. I did not use the courier service as my DFO had never completed one before and needed assistance from Provincial DFO. It took about 5 weeks and was printed by my DFO, all 5 pages.

Thank you for the reply shooty.

Do you know if the application has to go to provincial, or can I courier directly to CFR?

My DFO only goes to Provincial once a month.

The dealer has nothing to do with it, except for signing the application form.

A dealer can not and should not refuse to give you a S21 application. It’s not for him to decide.

If you look on the SAPS website where the forms are there is a pdf application and next to it is a pdf with instructions on the process.

    Thank you.

The only instructions I can see there is for the applicant and the DFO.
The deciding officer is not specified as Provincial or CFR..

Can anyone share some light on what is the next step from DFO to where?
Also the arrangements needed, as I assume one can not just courier an application without someone being on the lookout therefore?

or is there someone I can phone to find out as my DFO doesn’t know how or what about the process? CFR call center is also not very helpful..

How about you just ask your DFO to do his job. It is not for an applicant to educate DFOs.

He has structures that he can make enquiries through.

I would suggest that he starts with the provincial office.
