    Default Western Cape Pheasant Shoot

I don't recall seeing such a drought before, as the current one we are faced with in the Western Cape. We knew last year already that it will have a big impact on our game birds, especially the waterfowl. With duck season having come and almost gone we just haven’t been out shooting. Similarly, even the usual Egyptian Geese are spread far and wide in their effort to survive.

Fortunately we have a few spots where despite the drought we still have good numbers of birds. This will obviously call for selective shooting and management during this period.

Down here in the Cape we do like to make an occasion of the opportunities presenting itself and so it was with the opening of our pheasant season that we enjoyed good food (everything always tastes better in the veld!) and great company – even the pheasants ‘hanged out’ with us. :)

Plenty. The rump feather makes a killer Mrs Simpson or other wet fly variants. :)
