Gunsmith needed for Merkel rifle
Hi, I am having trouble with a Merkel S/S double (140) not opening after several shots.
Does any body know of a gunsmith who could help fixing this ?

Try Greg Gardin in Vanderbijlpark. Googling will get you his details. If he cannot do it he will tell you who can.

You could also speak to Vince at Ritchie Gunsmiths in Florida.

Re: Gunsmith needed for Merkel rifle
I suggest giving Juan Brogiolo a call, he used to be the gunsmith at Valley Trading, I heard that he was going to rent some space at the new African Rifles premises.

Re: Gunsmith needed for Merkel rifle
If you come right, please let me know who sorted you out.
My friend has a William Evans 470 that battles to open. A very wise person on this site suggested that the firing pins were sticking a bit far out after firing, which sounds very plausible considering what the primers look like.A roaring Lion kills no game

Re: Gunsmith needed for Merkel rifle
I thin kI solves the problem: This weekend I tried new amo , I purchased Sako and Federal - no jamming. I used Sellier and Bellot and I jammed on nearly every shot.
What is strange however is that when I used Sellier and Bellot before everything was fine. Can it be that there was a fault with the specific batch? Is manufactured ammunition not supposed to be of high quality and at spec? Or does it come with variances ?
