Default screw size for base on 375H&H

What is the right screw size , 6x48 or 8x40 ?

Are 6x48 screws holding the base to the receiver going to be ok, or will it shoot loose ?

This probably depends on base type and length of thread in the hole. Scope weight maybe too.

I am quite fed-up with all these difficult to get scews and threads. Would easily change over to metric scews. (Drill & tap.)

The dimensions are designed for maximum thread surface area contact.

A same size metric thread will not give the same shear strength or hold the same torque.

You'd need a bigger screw and more threads in the receiver [ thicker ] for the same strength.
