Firearm not in Dealer stock problem

Hi All,

Last year I purchased a 22LR Rifle from my local gunshop. I had all the info completed for me, had my endorsements done by my association and submitted the application. The DFO phoned me up the same day to complain that the rifle was not in dealers stock according to CFR.

The gunshop has tried for months now to get this firearm onto their stock according to CFR but no joy.

What is the problem with CFR? Is this a deliberate ploy to slow down licensing? I seem to remember this as a problem last year as well.

Gonna go with deliberate ploy to create frustration.

They use do accept application.
And then process transfers between dealers and onto you as they do app.

But now they first want transfer done before excepting.

And they take for ever with this.

Im not sure. But if you join GOSA.
Maybe they can contact CFR on your behalf and get it done.

Happened locally as well, firearms were on a 350 on dealer stock and then mysteriously went back to the importers stock, according tot he cfr and we all know it is never the CFR's fault

A firearm is in dealer stock when it is recorded in the dealer stock register.

Stock received must be communicated to CFR in terms of the FCA for data recording purposes.

CFR has for the last several years not been able to capture the data in a timeous fashion. Because CFR was unable to do this it was accepted by SAPS admin that the DFO could capture the data with submitted dealer stock returns (the so called 350 returns) to enable them to capture the licence application.

CFR stopped this practice for reasons unknown and this has caused chaos in the licence application process. CFR is till not able to capture dealer stock returns in a timeous fashion.

Yeah I have been told by almost all the gun shops in my area that they will basically refuse to book private sale guns on to their stock because of these problems. They also say that their safes are so full of guns that they don't have space for new stock.

I hear this creates delays with licensing of 3 month or worse.

would the dealer be unaware that the firearm has not yet been "processed into stock"

im guessing dealing with CFR would be a black hole of info

From what I understand the dealer can only wait for the printout from CFR and then go back to them and try and get it booked in each time.

Yeah... what printout?

There is no mechanism for CFR to 'report back' to dealers.
