All pump actions are single barrelled
For calm work where a second shot is not necessary, maybe guinea fowl for the evening? Or shooting a snake where necessary?

Re: Single barrel shot guns: Are they still relevant/useful today?
My Dad has a Harrington Richardson single shot 12 br. Except for the empty case that gets stuck and then needs to be "thrown" out from the muzzle side, we all enjoy wingshooting with it.
Other than that, uhm, no use. Not good for home defence, sport shooting, hunting (I will rather not put a slug or LG/SSG through it).
Will I buy one? No.
Nostalgic use, thats all.

Single barrell shotguns are really not that usefull however they are so cheap nowadays and often given away for free so what I would do is buy 6 of them for less than the price of a side by side and then suddenly have 3 side by sides to shoot with!!

I also grew up with a single barrel Harrrington and Richardson 12br shotgun which accounted for lots of guineafowl, spurfowl and pigeons. It had the same issue of not ejecting the spent shell so a large ball bearing was always part of the kit. If it is all you have it will do the job.

Re: Single barrel shot guns: Are they still relevant/useful today?
Like most kids (60+ year ago ) who lived in the woods,/country, we started off with 12 ga. singleshots..... we shot duck ,geese, grouse, rabbits
today, some people cut the barrel short to fit in back pack for bear and mountain lion defence.( 12 or 20ga)
I much prefer a pump while just hiking in the mountains
quite a few moose hunters have .410shotguns in trucks for grouse / hare for camp meals

Single barrels save on ammo cost on a pigeon shoot. And in my case does not affect my hit ratio

Well you could shoot some Trap Clay Pigeon with it. You only allowed to load 1 for trap any case. Even if you have semi, O/U, S/S or pump.

It may come as a shock, single barreled shotguns are still much in use around the world and some of the top gunmakers offer them as current models and they don't all come cheap, here's some examples.
