Default Glock 19 G4 first clean, oil and solvent question

    Hi guys,

First time giving my new Glock 19 a clean before firing. I'm reading the manual and just have a question about oil and solvents.
I was gifted a bottle of ballistol and a bottle of Hoppe's No 9 Nitro Solvent (both very old, does that make a difference?)

My question is, in the manual they refer to cleaner-lubricant-preservative, is this the Hoppe's no 9? And the gun oil the ballistol?
A simple question I know but I would hate to make mistake with the wrong stuff.

So I start by using a jag with some Hoppe's and once all cleaned use the ballistol to oil the necessary bits?

    Thanks a lot!

I was under the impression that the best is to leave the factory copper lubricant on until it wears off after a couple hundred rounds ?
Then clean and lube as recommended (I use Ballistol to clean and Slip EW Lubricant for the points recommended)

Awesome, thank you! In the manual they talk about a basic first clean before first fire (being careful not to remove their factory lube) so I think a barrel clean would be fine for now and then a proper clean and lube once some rounds passed through. Sound good? Using the oils I have it won't disolve my finish or anything silly will it?

I just go shoot them. And I have had a Glock or two.

Make sure the barrel is clear

Fantastico, thanks guys - simple barrel clean it is then. So a patch, then nylon bristle with Hoppes no 9 a few times then ballistol and clean excess oil?

Here is a decent Youtube video which I used as a guideline.

You will notice he also uses Hoppe's no 9.

Copper slip is more an anti-seize than a lube, but the gun is fine to be shot as is, just check the barrel is clear as mentioned. You can always follow their lube guide before if you want to

My barrels have never seen bristle, just a patch after cleaning every few thousand rounds.
