Re: The Fake News Thread
Whatsapp groups that are not administrated correctly and meticulously are a huge source of mis-information, especially "safety groups" where it is allowed for participants to post anything before being verified by administrators. It is actually a real sad situation that the tool of a whatsapp group that are excellent for safety and security when used correctly turned into a source of hoax spreading and people no wanting to be part of it anymore. Whether it is politics, hoax junk, religious matters etc., if it has nothing to do with safety of the group, don't post it.
(I am on various "safety" whatsapp groups and administrating a few, some days it become full time task with all the hoax stories cominmg through.)

Re: The Fake News Thread
One I keep seeing popping up is the one where some guy at a fuel station will give you a little business card and when you touch it you get Burundanga (or sometimes called "boeroe-dagga" in SA) on your hands which will be absorbed by the skin and when you drive away they will follow you until you pass out (about 2~3 minutes later) and steal everything. It's also BS. The amounts of that substance that is absorbed through the skin isn't enough to cause any side effects for several hours of continuous exposure.

Re: The Fake News Thread
There was a directive from SAPS posted under "Licencing and relicencing".
This thread was started by Craig.
Now I cannot find it.
Was it fake news? Was it therefore withdrawn?

Your powers of deduction are rather astounding. Spot on.
It was a document made by a guy on facebook as a joke to show the people how easy it was to fake. He didn’t take into account how fast people would share it as the truth.
I managed to can it about 5 minutes after it was posted.

Not even posting this one again. It was a good news fake.

Re: The Fake News Thread
And that's the danger of accepting something from a 'reliable sauce' and then been asked to post it. Not thinking anything of it, I was a victim. :)
