Glock Gen 3 v 4 v 5
Hi All
So I currently EDC an Gen3 G27, bought off a forum member around 6 years ago I think. I enjoy the sub-compact Glock platform as an EDC- great concealability, small package with the ability of having larger spare mags available should SHTF.
Now, as mentioned, I enjoy the G27 a lot, and have no regrets buying it, besides when I compare ammo prices, and then realize I should have rather waited and bought a G26, as many forum members have said countless times.
I am wanting to with time, move my platform over to 9mm, and figured that the next logical step would be to get a Gen 5 G19 (maybe 17, but 19 probably makes more sense) that I can use at the range as well as a back-up EDC should I want/need to carry the 19 for what ever reason. With more time I will then either get a G26 to replace the 27, or a 43 for when single stack is more appropriate.
So now comes the question. With the prices of the Gen 5 vs Gen 3/4 being about R2k different (depending on where you shop), do you think it makes more sense to save a bit more and get the Gen5, or would a Gen3/4 be the smarter move? Getting the cheaper gun means I could get it sooner, and have more cash for ammo/mags/other bits and pieces, but the newer model obviously has improvements that one shouldn't overlook. At a shop recently (while I was trading body parts for 40 S&W range ammo) the salesman said that he would choose a Gen3 over Gen4, and would be tempted to get a Gen3 before a Gen5 due to pricing, which got me thinking. They did not have a Gen3 in stock that he was wanting to move, so rules out "old tricks"
Thoughts from the wiser members?

Re: Glock Gen 3 v 4 v 5
An analogy I used the other day, and one I still like , is to think of the Gen3 as a polo Vivo. You are getting an older model at a very attractive price. Its a good solid reliable platform that will do what it says on the box.
That said, if budget allows it, the Gen5 is a better gun in every way. Better trigger, better barrel, better finish, better ergos for most.
When people do the whole "I would choose a Gen3 over a 4 or 5" thing it normally doesn't come from a place of experience or great understanding of the machine.

Re: Glock Gen 3 v 4 v 5
Thanks T. Good analogy, particularly as we have recently sold a Polo :)
Seeing as this isn't an urgent buy, it probably makes sense to ensure the budget does allow it, and get the Gen5...
Appreciate it

I've owned, carried and shot gen 3, 4 and 5s and all in 19. The gen 5 is the best of the lot, and it's all a good lot. Having said the the gen 5 has a great trigger and the over fines of the gun is streets ahead of its ancestors.
Get a gen 5, who'll love it.

Re: Glock Gen 3 v 4 v 5
I recently bought a Gen 5.
But im sure the Gen 3 price at S&O at the moment is quite tempting @R6900
