Internal directive, no signatures, the signed version has names and ranks crossed out, and the national commissioner made no mention of this in the PCOP meetings last week...

Guys, this has been doing the rounds for a few days now. It appears to be a premature release by the Limpopo provincial department. The recommendation from associations is that for the time being firearms owners do nothing and rather wait until there is clarity.

As far as I know, point 7.1 is not correct. The Green license stays valid, even if it was renewed to the white card.

It is worrying if the police actually believe it to be the case. 7.1 that is.

There are different interpretations of the legal position. Some of the lawyers involved with some of the firearms associations believe that the SAPS' interpretation is correct. So one needs to be careful with this issue. It's by no means as cut and dried as most of us on Gunsite would like to believe it is (myself included).

Not to be negative, but this is basically the worst possible case, if this proves to be the official position. No possible action other than to hand the firearm in, and no possible result other than destruction of the firearm. And while the judge (whom I must say, clearly had no realistic grasp of the situation) said that nobody would be arrested for being in possession with an expired licence (or words to that effect), it's entirely possible if not probable that that will or could be the case, ie. whilst they might claim to be 'nice' about it, it would be entirely possible to arrest the person concerned, as they clearly state here.
