AR10 - Scope for Medium to "Long" distance shooting?
Howdy gents
What would be a good scope for an AR10 - for distances between 300 to 600m?
For benchrest shooting mostly, but don't want something too heavy
Thanks

Re: AR10 - Scope for Medium to "Long" distance shooting?
Do you want holdover or will you dial the range in ?
Go work out the bullet drop for the load you plan on using, to see how many moa the scope needs.
Then define a budget.
Then look for a scope.

I'd prefer to the holdover to dialling it in
Good suggestion though. Thanks.

I use a IOR Valdada 1.5x8 FFP trident tactical. Mil/Mil configuration. Great glass, robust, illuminated reticle.

Re: AR10 - Scope for Medium to "Long" distance shooting?
You need something with a reticle like the Lynx target scopes, Vortex Viper wth EBR-1 or dead-hold BDC , or Zeis RZ1000 - there is enough MOA on the reticle to holdover to 600 meters.
A one inch tube with a max of 12x magnification in either of the three above is good for 600 meters.

My 16” AR 308 is topped by a Leupold MK6 3-18 (light weight scope) with a David Tubb reticle.
My AR 20” is topped by a Swarovski DS scope.
Heavy scope & gun but oh so quick at long range.
The new Kahles 318i 3.5-18 scope with a SKMR3 reticle is going to be my next scope.

Re: AR10 - Scope for Medium to "Long" distance shooting?
Good advice here ^^^
Do not fall for the trap of going for too much magnification. I often see shooters dialing their scopes up to magnification settings that are more of a hinderance than help. High magnification makes everything dead slow. This may be acceptable on a single shot or bolt action rifle. On a SLR this cancels the rifle's ability to be ready instantly for the next shot.
With 8x or 10x magnification and clear lenses you can ring steel out to 600m easily. And you can dial down for close shots.
Get a recticle that fits your skill level. Some are over-complicated for many shooters and only get more confusing when the pressure increases.

And something with an illuminated reticle? For low light. What would be a good option for 300 to 600m on an ar10

I have a Kahles K16i. Magnification of 1-6 with illuminated reticle. It’s amazing optic. No problem hitting a target anything from indoor range to 8”inch gong at 300 meters
