Definitely looks like the 357 Bain&Davis.
This was available in the TC Contender pistol and the Desert Eagle was advertised in it, altough I have never seen one in the flesh.
The 357 Automag is similar, except for the rimless case. 44 Auto mag and it's necked down vesion the 357 were based on cut down 308 Win (or any of the 30-06 family) case.
