What do you think of the HK P30?
OK, so my encounter with the HK USP compact has lead me to research Heckler and Koch pistols a bit more and voila, I've discovered the HK P30 - which is apparently the most modern HK on the market.
Since I'm looking for a full size gun, I'm looking at the P30L.
So, any opinions on this gun? A lot of guys seem to have USP's and P2000's, but it seems the P30 is the top of the range HK by the sound of things. Am I correct? Does anyone on the board own one and care to share his views on it?
Thanks.

Re: What do you think of the HK P30?
Care to elaborate a little? How does it compare to your USP's and HK 45 (which I finally tracked down on the American HK site and which I now believe is merely a USP in 45 caliber?)
On the German HK site, there is no HK45, just the USP, P2000 and then the P30 after that.
Anyway, back to the P30. Why are you not impressed by it to the same extent as your other HK's?

the USP is superior in build quality .
the P30 is not as accuarate as my USP.
it has very nicelly thought out adjustable grips though.
if i had to buy an HK now it will be a USP or expert in 9mm.

The HK45 is not a USP 45. It is an evolution of that line but not merely a variant of it.
Make sure you research the actual price and availability of mags and spares for the P30. As in see the part with the price tag on it. Some shops will give you a very quote when they don't have stock and then prices will double when it arrrives.

Big T
Ok. Will do.

I'm surprised by your assessment of the build quality comparison between the P30 and USP. From my research it would appear that the P30 is more expensive than the USP and a more modern design.
Anyway, I've got to go with your personal experience, seeing as you actually own both these weapons.
Thanks for the info.

Re: What do you think of the HK P30?
H&K's quality is pretty much always a given...they do make good guns. Different people prefer one design over another but quality-wise the USPs, P2000s and the newer HK45 and P30 are all excellent.
I happen to really like and prefer the P30 / 30L and HK45 to the USP for shooting but I like my P2000 for CCW. The P30s and HK45 full size use grips that can be really irritating next to bare skin. Yeah, you can take sandpaper to them but that sorta seems a shame. The HK 45 Compact uses a similar grip design to the P2000 but is much larger.
Magazines for the P30 and full size HK45 will not interchange with any others although the longer P30's will fit in the P2000 or USPc, and the HK45's 10 rounders will work in the shorter Compact. Given the price of USPc magazines today in SA I would hate to see what those for the newer guns cost.
As much as I would like a P30L 9mm with the LEM, I can get a G34 or a M&P Pro for a lot less, have affordable magazines and spares available and can actually find holsters too. In fact, after looking at the HK45 I bought a full size M&P in the same caliber and SGB installed the Apex duty kit in it for me. I now like it enough that I just ordered two 14rd mags and some 10-8 baseplates...all for substansially less than the cost of an HK45 alone.
But I gotta admit...I may still have to see if I can score a P30L with LEM one of these days...it is a very nice pistol.Run Fast, Bite Hard!

And Rosenthal can't order for you? I shiver to think what the price is going to be but I'm sure they should be able to order for you.
I've had a look (online) at the gun. It looks good and all the reviews are good as well. Independant reviews not gun magazine reviews that is but then i shouldn't be surprised, it's an H&K after all. :)
A movie that I recently saw this gun in action was "Book of Eli". It seems however in the post apocalyptic times that since bullets are scares people just die from 1 shot. 1-shot-stops are not an issue in the future. However that being said maybe the bullets of the future are much better than we know it now. Speer SUPER Gold Dots :P
