Re: Heckler and Koch USP Compact in South Africa
H&K build an impressive pistol. But shoot one before you fall in love. What feels good in your hand is not always what you shoot best. I like how the USP compact feels but not how thy shoot. If I had to go USP it would be a 9f.

What is the "f" designation for?

Re: Heckler and Koch USP Compact in South Africa
'f' = full size (as opposed to the 'c' or compact) Not an H&K designation, just a way for guys to keep the specific models straight when discussing them.

Re: Heckler and Koch USP Compact in South Africa
Ah, thanks Ikor.
I have another question. It relates to the advantages and disadvantages of striker fired vs. hammer fired pistols.
I have personally experienced failures to fire PMP ammo with my G19. I've been informed that PMP use primers that are quite "hard" and that Glocks are known to have problems with them. Unfortunately, PMP also happens to be the only ammo my local gunshop has in stock at the moment.
One of the things I liked about the HK was the fact that it has a hammer and not a firing pin only. The other obvious choice - the M&P also has an internal firing pin.
Are hammer fired guns in any way better equipped to deal with "difficult" ammo than striker fired guns?
Many guys are quick to disdainfully say "Just use proper ammo in your gun", but here in SA that is sadly not always an option.

Just to show you the difference in size between the Compact and full-size with the Jet Funnel on the Combat Competition as an FYI :
The grip is not much different between the two save for overall length.

for my HK 45's one holster for all ( f , compact, expert) which is nice.
ghostrider , i noticed you have bobbed hammer on the compact. my 40 has the spur while the 357sig is bobbed.
