    Default .22 license question

    Hey guys,

I am busy with my motivation for an old Savage model 4C. I am confused about what the actual caliber should state on my application. The dealer has just put .22 in on the application form and on the SAPS 350a.

Engraved on the rifle is .22 short, long or Long Rifle as per picture below.

Should I leave it as it is? or change it to .22LR? I surely cant put all 3 in.......

    Thanks in advance.

Leave it at .22LR, I would say. Most (if not all?) ,22 LR can chamber and shoot short and long cartridges...

    Thanks.....

I will just change the forms to say .22LR instead of .22

This. Any change to what the system says will need a gunsmith's letter to change. Moerse PITA for no value.

    Hi StanP
I got my .22 licence about a month ago. I completed all the forms stating .22LR as punched on the barrel. Recieved my card stating calibre as .22 SHORT/LONG/LR. I recon completing the forms .22LR is the way to go.

Thanks for the info. Seems as though if you choose any one that they have on the system for that rifle, they accept the 1 and just add the others.

Might make sure first though. As Pirate stated it could be a big PITA.

    Thanks for the help guys.

You may possess / own / shoot any ammunition which can be shot in your firearm.

During the last few days someone mentioned that there is a specific calibre code for 357 / 9mm interchangeable firearms. Maybe there is a code for .22S / .22L / .22LR as well?

If the license says .22LR then posessing S/L is a non-issue. In the OP's case I doubt if he'd have any problems, unless the CURRENT description on CFR's system does NOT somewhere mention LR, which is unlikely.
