Apologies for wandering off topic as well. I heard of this video and as with any other video/image depicting violence, I had no interest in watching it.

This past Sunday I was attending a Birthday-Braai. A man who is known to me approached me and said "Jy is mos 'n Medic, kyk hier" He showed me the video as mentioned in the topic of this thread. I was so upset and disgusted. I have 18 years experience in EMS. I don't need to watch videos on social media to realise the world is still Barbaric. I am truly amazed that some people find these kind of media acceptable, and dare I say enjoyable.

RIP to this lady who was someone's child, Mother or partner.

it sounds horrible but these videos are out every day

yes its disgusting, but it doesnt shake me to the core because this level of sub human behaviour is worldwide

We have albinos having to be buried in the floors of their families houses in africa as they get dug up for muti, if caught on the way to school they are dismembered alive

too many sick people, too many people advocating human rights for the same people

kids are exposed to way to much horror online

then again, they will be exposed to horrors if they pick up a local newspaper

three fire fighters dead in yesterdays fire

people found it acceptable to share the video of a member falling to his death (doing a thankless job that not many of us would ever attempt)

it speaks volumes of society and its illness

Firstly, let me say I did not mean to imply it is less offensive because it was not a white lady, or south african. The content of the video was brutal, and graphic, and I do feel that it should not be propagated through social media. The other thing that totally pisses me off, is that this is now 'tagged' as another SA Farm killing. It did not even happen in our country, yet it adds fuel to the fires already burning about the whole farm killings debate.

Back to the video... So, what makes it so horrific? I think it is not that we are oblivious to the brutality and violence around us, in many places in the world, as stated by others. But we do live 'protected' lives, and a lot of this brutality is not so much 'in your face'. News and media typically do not publish actual killings 'scenes', so actually seeing it, is what causes the mental shock.

I was trained as a mining first aider and emergency medical support. on the mines, we saw horrific accidents way more regularly than I care to recall. having to assist at scenes where people got crushed under falling objects, or being injured by various very serious accidents, I have seen my unfair share of decapitation, disembowelment and amputations. but it was never as shocking to me, I guess because it was all accidents. there was never this merciless human with clear intent to mame and kill with such persistence.

I totally agree, everybody makes a huge scene about the easy access of information, and pornography and how that affects the children... I shudder to think what emotional scars would be left if either of my 2 daughters had to see this video! They have both hunted, and understand that the animal died. but there was respect, and dignity extended towards the hunted animal.

As for the Jo'burg fire, I totally agree! the man falling to his death is no less sad and horrific!
