375 vs 404 Jeff
So seeking to satisfy a big bore itch. I understand 375 is medium bore, but considering as an option as well.
Considerations:
1) reloading cost using bullets for range such as impalas or claw line.
2) Will be used for bush Veld hunting and Basa shoots.
3) Versatilty-can either be used for big game past 100m. No dangerous game on the menu.
Currently my 308 is my go to bush rifle.
Thoughts on either.
its a want, not a need..

.375 H&H Magnum...affordable, user friendly, versatile , from duiker to Giraffe ....different bullet weights available at any gun shop up into Africa...buy from shelve at gun shop...not a specialised rifle or caliber...nice to shoot , nice to use in various scenarios....

Re: 375 vs 404 Jeff
I've used my 375 for a few years guiding, and I have no issues with it, and I always thought, I'll never need a bigger rifle.... But look at me now, I upgraded to a 450.
So while there's nothing wrong with it, there's probably a good chance that after a few years you'll be longing for a bigger calibre (every guide I know that started with a 375 has upgraded)

Re: 375 vs 404 Jeff
375 fills the gap.
I have a 308, and the 375 is the go to rifle for the bigger things (458 for the BIGGER things)
Any Buffalo, giraffe, Eland etc will fall to the 375. You will find yourself using it for kudu and Wildebeest as well. Why, just because.....
If you need to scratch an itch, Gert and Johan Greyling make some amazing 404's if you do a search on this forumA roaring Lion kills no game

Re: 375 vs 404 Jeff
I have a 404 Jeffery I shoot a lot with, hunting with it when ever I hunt every year. I will probably never be able to hunt dangerous game since the price tag is out of reach for me..it is a great caliber to own if you really are using it extensively ...I do, on club shooting days always as I use my .458 Mannlicher Schoenauer ...cost will always be an issue ...whatever you shoot...but the .375H&H Magnum is still the best choice for your first meduim/transitional bore ...it will suite your needs for a long while to come..but you will progress to a big bore caliber if you have used the .375 H&H Magnum extensively...looking at the most practical big bore calibers the .450 Rigby will be the big bore rifle you will progress to...it just make sense...

Re: 375 vs 404 Jeff
I’ll vote for the .404 Jeffery, because it isn’t as mainstream. The old classics that have over the years been replaced by rifles in the magnum mania craze, they are interesting rifles. I also don’t like excessive recoil and for that reason not the .450 Rigby or such.
The 375 H&H probably makes more sense, or if you want to be really classy, a 9.3x62...

If you are going to work as a guide then the 375 will be your minimum requirement. CZ offer two positives in this regards, they are super reliable and robust, they hold more rounds in the magazine than most other big notes. The rest are semantics. How is your recoil tolerance, rifle budget, ammo budget etc.

Re: 375 vs 404 Jeff
If it is a need you go with a 375 but since it is a want it needs to be a 404
