Finally got my first French Piggy
Hi all
I finally got on the scoreboard here in France.
We went on Saturday morning and we were on our posts at around 8. The dogs passed me and then a while later at around 9 I heard a noise coming from the trees on my righthand side. I shouldered my 308 and the boar came out. Had the cross on him quickly but dissapeared behind a few trees and then came out again. He was running at quite a good pace at around 40m. Had the cross back on him and took the shot. The boar dropped like a sack of bricks and kicked a few times. I reloaded instantly but it was'nt neccesairy to give it another shot. Then I had to wait for another 3 hours before I could go have a look.
It was a nice boar of 96 kilos with nice big teeth, shot went in below and behind the ear. We loaded him and the other 4 that was shot and took them back to the slaughtering area where they were emptied and cut up in pieces and we drew lots for it. Another guy also gave me his part because he said it was my boar. Yesterday I skinned it and minced the meat. Froze it and in 3 weeks I'll make some boar sausage.
The exit wound was almost the same size as the entry wound. That worried me a little bit but I suppose it did the job.
Cheers

Re: Finally got my first French Piggy
Congrats Methos!
Two questions:
1) Why did you have to wait 3 hours when the pig was only 40m away? Was it shot from a stationary position?
2) Why do they first cut it up and then skin it?

Re: Finally got my first French Piggy
Hi Ds
Thanks.

It is a driven hunt so the hunt carries on. You don't want to walk around in the hunting area whule bullets are flying ;) You are not allowed to leave your post untill the end of the hunt.
2) Why do they first cut it up and then skin it?
Don't really know. Probably because it goes quicker that way. If 5 pigs has to be skinned it will take a long time. Was the first time I hunted with these guys.
Regards

Re: Finally got my first French Piggy
Nope not at all. I kept a few hairs for fly-tying. But it is pork skin. So not a hide like a kudu.
