First time FA owner

Hey, I'm busy getting all my documentation right for my first competency certificate and fire arms license.
I've just got a couple of questions
How must the character references look like and can only one character reference be from a family member.
Where can I can crime stats and articles of the area I live in. And lastly did anybody get their competency and FA license from Erasmia SAPS recently what can I expect from their DFO

For rifle most of my references were family.

Speak to your DFO before getting everything together, as each region seems to be a little different. For example, my DFO wanted to personally interview my wife, a friend, and a family member.
