My license was approved on the 1st of August, since the first week of September I have been phoning weekly to find out if my license can be collected and every time I only get "we will call you when it's here".

This morning I stopped by the DFO, she asked whether I received a phone call to which I replied in the negative, she then says they'll call me when it arrives so I ask her if she's not going to look whether it's there or not to which she says no. I then told her that either she looks and confirms whether it's not there or I'm going to the station commander and I'm bringing my lawyer into this.

It turns out that my license has been there since the 2nd of September...

I am very VERY relieved that I have changed to a different DFO some time ago

Im so thankful to be blessed with the very best DFO in the country! Vanderbijlpark, always friendly, always willing, and always helpful.

Nope. I lodged a complaint against him last month for being extremely unhelpful. Didn't bother answering my emails till I cc'd him in my mail to complaintsnodalpoint@saps.gov.za - he responded 8 minutes after I sent the mail. We then switched to WhatsApp where he continued with his kak unhelpful attitude. He ignored what I had asked him in my original emails about where my new card was that the cfr said should be at the station. Kept on insisting he will phone me when my card was at the station, which he didn't do. While I was sitting in his Colonel's office discussing the issue another Colonel came in and told us that my card was there and had been for a while. No call from the dfo.
The ladies in the office are normally helpful and friendly though.
Pm me if you would like copies of the emails and WhatsApp messages.

I had only excellent service from all of them at the Dfo office, but the meeting with the dfo was quite a couple of years ago. I think it was a Col. Prinsloo or something in that line, it was just after he came from a course on the rule interpretation etc about a semi auto SG.

Capt. Alwyn Wilken is the current dfo that badly needs public relations skills. There was a Col Prinsloo in Vereeniging that you can Google - selling guns to gangsters.

Nope not the same guy, this one was a lot younger. If I really want to, I can see if I can find his detail from about 8 years ago heap of papers. But anyhow, that was that time and now you have your current problem with the new guy there.

Not sure how long this one has been there. Any issues, pm me and I will supply you (anyone in the Vanderbijl area welcome) all the phone numbers to climb up the chain of command til you are helped to your satisfaction.
Luckily I have a choice between Barrage and Vanderbijl for handing in paperwork so for my next app I will give Barrage a try.

Reopening an old thread… I'm going to hand in two competencies Shotgun and SLR very soon, I see you’ve mentioned that you’ve changed your DFO. I also live in Roodepoort, Roodekrans to be more specific. When I did my handgun competency, I used Roodepoort, the one opposite from Hoërskool Roodepoort. I’m just looking for a “better” DFO. FYI at Roodepoort they did NOT accept written character references, it took me 3 weeks to get that done because I had to physically escort all 3 of them and their offices close at 15H30. Any feedback would be appreciated.

Sorry, I wouldn't be able to help you, I've moved to the Free State and my current DFO is pretty good. Maybe (hopefully) the DFO at Florida has changed, wait for feedback from someone who's been there more recently

The DFO at florida has changed. They have a new lady there and is generally very helpful.
There are a box of cards laying there so people need to go and check.
Unfortunately she is so swamped with work that I doubt she has time to phone people to collect cards.
