Reading this makes me want to dust off the Marlin 39A and go shoot off a brick....

For all practical purposes, the 22LR is an entry-level drug.

Okay so .22 is. I have seen some 10/22's going at what I think are decent prices . What sort of practical accuracy can be expected from a stock 10/22? Do subsonics cycle it?

All 22's are picky about ammo, a semi-auto more so than a bolt gun. I would expect a typical thin-barreled 10/22 to give about double the group size a Ruger (or CZ for that matter) bolt gun would.

Most of them will feed with subsonic ammo.

What semi-autos generally don't like, is unplated bullets. The wax coating tends to build up in the chamber and action and cause feeding issues. When using unplated (lead) subsonics, be sure to clean the chamber frequently and lube the action well.

Also choose your mags carefully. The factory 10-shot mags feed well with most ammo, including subsonics. The higher capacity mags seem to prefer HV ammo.

the 10/22 in stock form has the same life span as a Glock 17
if not longer IMHO. only downs side is 2 inch groups at 50 yard. 1/2 inch for a CZ
    old salt
