    Default Saps350

This morning I went to hand in an app but they told me I needed a saps350 form, but the gun is on the dealers name. They say they need it as proof to say they dealer sold the gun to me, for me it doesn't sound right. What do you guys think about this

    It's typical SAPS horseshit.

Tell your DFO to do their damned job.

Kak. The dealer signed the 271. That is proof of transfer of ownership.

I'm not sure who is correct, but when I bought my shotgun beginning of the Feb I was given a SAPS 350 & 271 forms with the dealer's and shotgun details filled in.

And it you look at this image below (sorry for the quality - got it from the site a while ago) it also states that they want a SAPS 350 form for new applications if you bought if from a dealer:

I was also provided with the SAPS 350 & 271 forms by the selling shop.

Inside the 271 is at bottom of one of the pages a small section also saying 350. In this the dealer fills in same details that appear on the SAPS 350. So to me the SAPS 350 with the 271 is duplicate info.

However the dealers ive bought from in CPT area. Every time so far has given me a SAPS 350 with the 271 form in any case.
And the DFO so far has checked its included.

The 350 merely shows the SAPS where the Dealer got the firearm from.

My DFO has not so far. But I know some CPT DFO's will first check if firearm is already showing on the dealers name on system. If not they do not want to take the app from you until it does. This could however be their own rule and not some instruction they received.

The 350s were required from when the CFR stopped regularly capturing 350 details from the dealers (as is their duty) about 4 years ago. Using the 350s the DFOs could correct the record on the Enhanced Firearms Management System. Last year General Bothma issued a directive and cancelled the function that the DFOs could use to update the system. Now, if your firearm ISN'T already on the system under the selling dealers name there is nothing that the DFO can do about it, so the requirement for 350s is now redundant.

It was never part of the legal requirements, only a way to try to hotwire the broken system.

Tell your DFOs to do their damned duty.

For awhile I struggled to get my app out of process after it was + 60 working days at CFR.

Call to GOSA to assist sorted it out in same day. And CFR approved it immediately.

Join GOSA. When DFO gives attitude or does not work correct. Just tell them you will ask GOSA to assist, because your sure he might not be correct.

I am always pretty hesitant to pick a fight with my DFO, Customs and SARS. All these guys can hold it against you in future.

The DFO also writes recommendation on 271.
If your too over aggressive with him. He might write it on 271 not recommending you.
And if you say but he was wrong any case. He will just say you were aggressive, he cant recommend you. And this always makes me personally not want to pick a fight with them.
